Thinking of you as I stay abreast of the fire news from France, and Spain as well. Here in Connecticut we have days of intense heat followed by le déluge, then a couple of perfect days, then the cycle repeats itself. Wildfires in Canada delivered smoky air a couple of times. It has been a crazy summer. Enjoy your time in lovely Provence. Last time I was there there were fires near Avignon.
Apologies for the late response Diana, but appreciate the well wishes. The vacation was wonderful and thankfully the fires seem to have sloweed significantly, and we had no effects from it where we were. Summer has definitely been something else, no matter where one seems to live. Hope this is a once-in-a-blue moon situation!
Post. It has been many years since I have been to Brittany . I would spend many many summer weeks at family 200 year old cottage . Driving to the beach and picking mussels for dinner. Stop to buy a waffle on the way. Walking down the lane to get milk and eggs and butter. Sometimes a cow would chase us. After dinner we would walk arm in arm singing to the small village and back home . I loved those times
Apologies for the late response (was away on holidays), but this made me smile. This is Brittany, still. Sure, it’s changed a bit - everything has - but Brittany has really kept a lot of its charm that many places seem to lose. Hopefully you’ll make it back again to relive it, even one last time :)
I had the great pleasure of visiting Quimper. A work colleague’s cousin was getting married and I was invited to come along. I had a splendid time there. Got to hear the famous Breton Bagpipes as part of the wedding ceremony. The food was outstanding to say the least.
So lovely that you got to experience that, Richard. It’s funny how so many nearby towns that I think many haven’t been to or heard of, end up being an “oh, I’ve been there before!” to so many readers. I love it. I hope the memories stay with you, and even better, that you’ll relive them again soon someday. Any plans on coming back?
Hang in there Audrey, just be prepared and hope for the best. I am thinking of you all in Europe. I have always been afraid of fire, growing up with stories of how my grandparents lost their business not once but twice to fire. And I lived near an out of control fire in a rural area and it really is so scary. A bottle of wine helped LOL. Seriously, all the best
Much appreciated, Kathleen. Woke up to news of a fire randomly breaking out just a few kilometers away from our home. We've had normal weather for a week now, so this came out of nowhere, and fear it was "manmade"... But I'm trying to stay relaxed before we leave for vacation tomorrow.
And I can totally appreciate why you have a fear of fire after all of that. Terrifying.
There are plenty of people here in the States that are concerned about direct energy weapons and what is happening in our skies with weather interference. G is not the best source of information on these topics. Blessings to you and yours!
We lived in a rural area of San Diego and were evacuated twice. The first time (2004) we could see flames southwest of our house and from the northeast. We took off of for my mother's house 25 miles west at the coast. It felt like the whole county was burning. There was a similar event in 2007. I grew to be fearful and worried every October when fires usually happen here so we moved to the coast. It will be well Audrey. It will take time but all will be well.
That must have been traumatizing, Cynthia, I can't even imagine the type of stress that brought to you all. So glad to hear that the move has at least alieviated some of those worries, but I am sure it'll always be in the back of your mind. Appreciate the well wishes!
So sorry you have to endure this heat and the horrible fires. My heart goes out to you all. I love France so much and just thinking about this makes me feel so bad. Unfortunately this is global warming.
I actually had to Google this, and can honestly say I haven't heard that mentioned yet. Though there is no doubt in some online circles, something like this would definitely be mentioned as a possibility. It is a fascinating theory, I have to read more about this subject.

So sorry for the difficult summer for France. I was in France during one of the heatwaves and it was brutal.
We're truly lucky at the moment in Brittany, but the heat has been relentless this summer. I hope you still got to enjoy yourself here, truly.
